Hello from Big Winni. Warmer weather and warmer water temps have brought out a good mayfly hatch last weekend. Seems as we have seen fewer bugs the last day or two. Walleye bite has been spotty. The main lake bars and far north humps have produced ok this week for several short periods throughout the day. Rigging plain hooks with crawlers and leeches have been best. Work the upper edges of the structure up onto tops. Generally 23 feet up to as shallow as 15 feet. If you are getting bugged to bad by snails inject air into your crawlers. You can also put on an online floater to keep leeches up also. Check often to make sure you are not catching snails. Perch on the other hand remain strong with plenty of bites and with a bit if sorting a meal could be had quickly . Jigs and minnows is the best way to boat them. Pike bite is ok for trollers pulling larger plugs. Fire tiger or natural perch pattern has been the best. Sunfish are getting better and better as the bugs have come. Look to the deeper coon tail beds from 5 to 8 feet of water early and later in the day. Small hooks with a slit shot or a 16th or 32 nod oz jig with an inch if night crawler has been the easiest method to boat these fish. Time to go fishing, see you on the lake.
