Hello from Inchadamph in northwestern Scotland! Finally have - TopicsExpress

Hello from Inchadamph in northwestern Scotland! Finally have Internet access after about two weeks without. Am staying at a hostel here and they have a computer that we can use - yaaaayyy! Arrived yesterday afternoon after a fairly tough day slogging across peat bogs, up hills, and the usual sort of stuff here in the Scottish highlands. However, bad weather and midges (very very tiny biting insects that swarm you) have not really been an issue as of late, so I aint complaining at all! Have done some amazing hiking - am in the best part of the Scottish National Trail for sure. Most days I dont see another human being and up here dont even see sheep - yesterday saw three herds of red deer that totalled about 100 animals in all. A few nice big bulls/stags with one of the groups but mostly cows and calves. I only have five more days of hiking now until I reach Cape Wrath on Sunday 14 September and ensure that Terry Foxs flag flies proudly at the northwestern tip of Scotland on the day that Canadians honour Terrys memory and Marathon of Hope. Am now taking photos with my smartphone (its much smarter than I am) and will try to post some later today. My feet are a little sore on the bottoms from all the hiking and in the mornings I do feel a little stiff and battered before I get going - the joys of getting older! Its a lot easier to do this sort of thing - hiking up and down hills and over endless heather/bog moors - when youre a little younger. Sleeping on a Thermarest mattress isnt the same as a nice firm bed either but I still generally get 9-10 hours a night as am usually just exhausted at the end of the day. Stop, get tent up, boil water for tea and whatever dehydrated meal delight Im having, eat, read for a bit (East of Eden right now - third time reading it), and then snooooooooooze! Am really enjoying it but after 46 days out on the trail Im starting to look forward to the end and to getting back to Canada on 2nd October. Lots to do yet between now and then, but starting to think of things beyond just whatever the next days hike is to be! Ive logged some 840 km now and will end up around 900 km for the trip on Sunday afternoon. Theres a little less of me now than there was when I started out on 24 July - but still nobody would call me thin! Time for more coffee and some food - its just coming up on 8 am here. Will post some more thoughts - and perhaps some photos - later on. Just know that all is going very well and the end is almost in sight!
