Hello karters Just a reminder that submissions for the Round 29 - TopicsExpress

Hello karters Just a reminder that submissions for the Round 29 Proposed Rule Changes are due by 8 August 2014. No doubt you have read our proposal for a new class – Rotax Masters. Can you please consider the proposal, plus the comments below and not only vote in favour of the new rule, but vote for it to be a Championship Class. The word Masters conjures up ideas of ‘mastering something’ and then using the skill you have developed over many years against other people a similar ‘older age’. Maybe the word masters shouldn’t be used to describe this new class, a more appropriate word could be ‘40+’. There are quite a lot of karters that are just starting out karting in this age bracket, are probably not a master in the sense of the word, but are keen and very competitive. The idea behind the new class is to have the ability for the similar aged ‘more mature’ set to race either at hosted events or at open events or series without having to compete with the young ones, where, because of age, there is probably no chance of being recognised for their great skills. Let’s face it; it’s natural that the fitness and reaction times of a 40+ is much less than a teenager, so in our sport there is probably no chance of getting on the podium if you are 40+. About this new class ‘proving itself’ first before being made a championship class, we will attract much more interest if we go cold turkey straight to championship class. There’s nothing to prove, we are already out there doing it, the championship status MUST pull others out of retirement, and entice others. As stated in the proposal, what a great thing to be able to do…start a new sport at 40+ and be competitive at a national or island event! The way we look at it is we have to do things and try things the kiwi way. We are a small country with a small amount of karters and if you want to race with the crowds then you need to be classing with the crowds. The way it has gone, like it or loath it, Rotax IS the way the kiwi kartsport has gone, no questions about it, and thats not going to change easily in the short term, the bulk of karters run Rotaxs because it is the most cost effective, fun, option out there, and there are good fields most club days. We respect CIK and what they do in Europe and the Americas, (and what Prokarts is doing with the gearbox KZ2 Masters) but some of those classes will not fit into the way this country has adopted Rotax. Therefore what we are trying to say is KF2 is dead in NZ. It still is a championship class. It can’t continue to be a championship class without entries at NZ or Island events. Our proposal is a perfect way to ditch one and add another without any consequences to the sport except positive. ie, 20 (even 10-15) entries at the Islands / Nationals must surely be better than NONE. The new Rotax Masters Class shouldn’t have to prove itself when there is an unproven dead class already there. There is nothing to lose for our sport. If we get no entries at 2015 Nat champs at Manawatu then we will accept defeat and let it slide, but we at least have to try it, theres nothing to lose. As discussed in the proposal, the inclusion of this new class as a championship class is a great way of addressing the biggest issue in our sport…attracting new and retaining members. Kartsport Tokoroa.
