Hello ladies and gentlemen! Its that exciting time of year when elections are held to decide which of you fabulous people will take over from the current committee... So, what you need to do is have a little read of the position descriptions below and decide if there is something you want to run for. If you decide that you are the next bossy President, slightly tipsy Social Secretary or super organised Secretary, then send your nomination to the club email: [email protected] as soon as possible. In your nomination you need to include the following: which position you want to run for and a 100-150 word manifesto as to why you want this position. This is dead easy so dont stress over it!! The deadline for your nomination is 9pm Friday 21st March 2014 - this is so that I can send the manifestos out to the club to read :) It also gives me time to see what positions may not be filled and - crucially - print off voting cards! The elections will be held in the committee room in the students union at 5pm sharp on Wednesday 26th March. (Following our Varsity competition, so Claire, wed better make sure we run to time!!) Each candidate will have to make a short speech outlining why they feel they are correct for the position and possibly answer a question or two. There will be a social following this, so everyone can celebrate the best club in Aber! Please note that only paid club members are eligible to vote in the election and run for positions. And I have a list, so I can and will stop you voting if you havent paid either form of membership! I would just like to thank my committee this year as every single one of them has worked their socks off whenever I have needed them to. They – and the rest of you – have made my time as President not only worth it but fully enjoyable! If you are on the fence about trying out for a position...go for it. It will be the best decision you ever made. Positions are as follows: (adapted from our constitution, so they are very formally worded!) President The President is the main contact point for external communications with all external groups and individuals. They are also responsible for the smooth and effective running of the committee and the club, and shall be the final arbitrageur of disputes amongst the committee. (You get the final say!) They are responsible for creating the best environment for the committee and other members to operate in. They must ensure the general health and direction of the club is in accordance with the views of its members. The President is also responsible for organising lessons in the first instance and organising all club hacks and internal competitions. Secretary The Secretary is responsible for organising meetings, events, and all aspects to do with the society/club. They are responsible for recording the minutes of all meetings, and are the main contact for receipt and outgoing administrative details of all events with regards to members and external organisations, including AberSU. Treasurer The Treasurer is in charge of all financial matters relating to the club. It is their job to keep the President and all other committe members up to date with incomings and outgoings. They must also make themselves available to sign various finance related paperwork for other members of the committee as and when required. Vice President Vice President is responsible for organising all club merchandise. They are also bound to aid the President in organising lessons, club hacks and internal competitions. If the President is temporarily unable to fill their role, the Vice President will do so until the President is able to return or resigns. The Vice President must also help other committee members fulfil their roles where it is deemed appropriate by the committee. Captain The Captain is responsible for all team fixtures and team kit. They must also have passed team tryouts and be on either A or B team. If in the event they do not pass tryouts, an election must be called and they will not be eligible to stand. Vice Captain Vice Captain is bound to aid the Captain in all aspects of running the team. Social Secretary The responsibility of Social Secretaries is to plan and host the Wednesday night socials which are to occur weekly, as this is their responsibility their attendance is compulsory. They are also responsible for organising the Christmas Meal and End of Year Meal. There are two Social Secretaries but they both hold an individual ticket as they run for the position separately. Aaaaaand back to me! :D These are very dry descriptions of our roles, but they give you a formal introuction to what we have to do. GO FOR IT GUYS!! If anyone needs any help, with manifestos or deciding which role or ANYTHING (club related) please, please contact me! Evie President
