Hello women, please see below for more information on gaining access to the International Women’s Rights Action Watch Global to Local Program. If your country is reporting on CEDAW anytime soon this is a very valuable program to do as it prepares you for the UN, for what you need to do and how to do it. This is an invitation for women particularly from Bahrain, Cameroon, Finland, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Sierra Leone & *Senegal. Cheers Christina Christina Ryan General Manager Advocacy for Inclusion Greetings from IWRAW Asia Pacific! We are once again seeking suitable NGOs to participate in our “From Global to Local” programme, which aims to help women’s groups participate in the CEDAW reporting process. We are writing to ask your help in identifying NGOs from countries reporting at the 57th CEDAW Session which has been tentatively scheduled for February 2014 in Geneva (* 10 February - 28 February 2014) We would like to especially get in touch with NGOs who have prepared or are in the process of preparing a shadow report to CEDAW Committee. LIST OF COUNTRIES SCHEDULED TO REPORT AT THE 57th CEDAW SESSION (listed at tbinternet.ohchr.org/_layouts/TreatyBodyExternal/SessionsList.aspx?Treaty=CEDAW) Bahrain, Cameroon, Finland, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Sierra Leone & *Senegal (possibly considered in the absence of a State Report) We would very much appreciate your suggestions of any women’s NGOs from these countries that you feel should be part of the programme and the CEDAW reporting process. We will contact the recommended NGOs to determine whether they are interested in participating in our “From Global to Local” programme and the CEDAW reporting process. The programme: (1) Helps women’s organisations understand the CEDAW reporting process so they can prepare a shadow / alternative report that touches on all of the articles of the CEDAW Convention and use the reporting process to frame their advocacy efforts; (2) Facilitates the presence of NGO representatives from reporting countries at the CEDAW Sessions to monitor the review of their State parties and to interact with the CEDAW Committee members in order to raise pertinent issues concerning women in their country. Please note that ONLY NGOs are eligible to participate in “From Global to Local”. IWRAW Asia Pacific has taken the position that persons that will be on the government delegation to the CEDAW session, or have helped write the government report to the CEDAW Committee should NOT be involved in writing the shadow/alternative report, and are NOT eligible to attend the “From Global to Local” training at the CEDAW Session. We hope that you could help us with this request. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. Warm regards, Dorathy Benjamin Programme Officer
