Help a Mom Out: She writes: My almost five year old has high functioning autism. He is also suspected to have ADHD, but isnt old enough to be tested yet. He is extremely intelligent, but has been at a stand still on learning to read and write for over a year now. At his IEP meeting yesterday, I was informed that he should be reading and writing now. That he is fully capable of learning how, but he totally lacks interest in learning, so hes not. My questions are, is this a common issue? Also how does one interest a child in learning if they dont want to learn? Thank you for any suggestions you might have.
