Help another Mom Out: She writes: "My daughter is nine years old, and is receiving special education services under the category of "specific learning disability", and has problems "focussing her attention". She seems to take longer than most kids her age to complete assignments. This morning as she was struggling to complete a project for school she said: "I wish I was in the talented and gifted program, those kids are smart..." She lost MY attention at "smart"! I have no idea what she continued on to say. I was more focused on trying to appear strong as the big lump in my throat started to form, and my eyes starting to fill with tears. I told her that I was sure she could do a lot of things that those kids could not. How would you respond? I see her self-esteem diminish every school year!"
