Help pls!!! Fish/water parameters were excellent & have been stable since I finished cycling & stocked them 6 wks ago. Temp was my normal 79. Decided to do a 50% water chg (nothing too out of the ordinary for me) & clean my canister filter for 1st time. So pump was off for about an hour or so, Before refilling & mbunas were mostly hiding. Used old tank water to rinse sponges & used tap water to rinse canister & baskets. I ditched my old carbon & replaced w polyfil. I did NOT rinse my biomedia. I reassembled & I turned pump back on & Just before refilling, fish started swimming around & I noticed temp was at 70, so I added warmer water for refill (again normal for me). I used prime & Then I OVERFILLED tank by mistake (onto new hardwood floors!) & temp was showing at 85 (not normal!)!!! At this point fish were all at bottom and hiding again and not swimming. I quickly drained about 25% and refilled w cold which brought my temp to 78 then 79. My fish were still at bottom, and hiding and not doing much and 1 struggling like he was dying. After 30-45 mins most started swimming around like normal & readings were almost .25 ammonia & just over 0 nitrite. Then 4.5 hrs later: temp great but .25 ammonia & .25 nitrite, 1 dead fish, another 2 struggling & rest are on bottom/hiding not swimming around!!!! My water flow is great. Everything had been sooooo good & gone to shit in no time due to my errors :( I think I stressed the hell out of them. How can I fix this?!? Add stability, more biomedia & prime? Thx!!!!
