Dynasties of Early China Classroom Presentations / PowerPoint and Videos History II, 6th Grade Students will complete a thorough research project and provide a twenty-minute presentation to the class on the assigned dynasty of China. Students will have eight class periods to work on this project. The remainder must be completed as homework. In addition, we will have one class period for filming all student videos. Students must be prepared for filming. Students must be prepared for class and use class time as a highly focused work period. PowerPoint: Students must cover these topics: 1. Political system 2. Religious beliefs during the dynastic reign 3. Important leaders 4. Rise and fall of the dynasty 5. Accomplishments and achievements 6. Artifacts 7. Art of the period 8. Specifications for each dynasty as indicated below must be given considerable attention in your research and presentation. (This means at least two PowerPoint pages for each specification.) PowerPoint must be no shorter than fifteen pages. Students must include written narrative, at least a complete paragraph on each topic. (Use expository writing format.) Students must include at least three visual aids for each topic. Students must be creative and interesting. Video: Your video will be imbedded in your PowerPoint. You can offer an official newscast, a ‘John Greene’ style crash course, a TV commercial, or any other approved video style. You must use at least three visual aids in your video. You must include at least five important facts with explanations for each. Video must be between 2 and 5 minutes. Specifications for each dynasty: Include two full PowerPoint pages for each specification. Zhou Dynasty: Confucianism, Daoism, Legalism Qin Dynasty: Guardians of Shi Huangdi’s Tomb, Great Wall of China, Canals Han Dynasty: Social Structure and Classes, The Shiji, Acupuncture. (Please also include one page on the Silk Road. The Silk Road can qualify as an accomplishment of the dynasty.) Grading: 10 Preparedness, timeliness, focus in work, study skills 35 Five points for each topic 21 Seven points for each specification 15 Video 10 Creativity, thoughtfulness, effort 10 Spelling, grammar, punctuation (proofreading!) 10 Organization of PowerPoint presentation 10 Oral Presentation Total 121 points
