Herbert “Ampang” Colangco is one of the 19 high-profile - TopicsExpress

Herbert “Ampang” Colangco is one of the 19 high-profile inmates found by Department of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Monday to be living lavish lifestyles inside the New Bilibid Prison‘s maximum security compound. The leader of the notorious Waray-Waray and Ozamiz bank robbery gangs, Colangco had been locked up in the national penitentiary since 2009. He and his fellow Bilibid VIPs were transferred to the NBI headquarters in Manila after De Lima’s raid. Whether or not he continued his criminal activities inside the prison — as is alleged in the case of the convicted drug lords in his ilk — is up to the DOJ to investigate beyond its declaration of finding a number of a diamond-studded Patek Philippe and other expensive watches in Colangco’s possession. What is clear that his incarceration did not stop him from pursuing his boyhood dream… of musical stardom. In Colangco’s kubol in Bilibid, De Lima discovered a professionally furnished generator-powered 60-square-meter music studio with a stage for live musical performances. This studio is where he recorded five songs composed by noted composer Edith Gallardo, the tunesmith behind Aiza Seguerra’s signature hit “Pagdating Panahon”.
