Here are my 3 thoughts concerning recent Knockout Game. 1) I saw this coming a while ago. I even knew a name would be given to it. 2) The media is trying to make it a race issue when it is not. I have taught around 4,000 African American students and dont see any of them doing anything like this. Racism and anger are a two for one package that sell. 3) Violence is intertwined in the male psyche and pop culture. There is an instinctive attraction to aggression that is often released in positive, cultural (art, sports, music) or entertainment (movies, video games) venues. What we have now is a generation that has grown up watching people fighting and flailing around on Youtube and the internet. Violence, real violence, not cartoon or movie violence, but bullying and cheap shots and entertainment based on the hurt of others, has been celebrated and now a lack of sense, sensitivity, and empathy exists in many young minds. So, one way to combat this, is to not watch someone getting kicked in the face, or their head chopped off, or sucker punched on the computer, but protest and flag these crimes. Also, shows that laugh at people being hurt over and over, like the one now on MTV that shows three people and an audience watching others get hurt, should not be viewed, and similar condemnation should occur. This new wave of spineless behavior is a natural response to the violent incidents that are featured and celebrated on the internet. What happens next? Feel free to share this. We need to stop immortalizing crime, violence, and bullying by allowing it to have an entertainment value. Thanks
