Here goes!!! I titled this Phoney. I know thats not the correct spelling. I saw a girl at lunch in the north shore of Hawaii. She was probably 14. Wearing a hat backwards that said STOKED on it. She was anything but that. Very detached, sad look on her face. Like she was extremely bored or just plain miserable. While eating I noticed out of the corner of my eye that this young lady was taking selfies. Her actions were noticable and were very disturbing. When she would take the picture. Her slouched shoulders would rise, her mouth formed a huge smile and her eyes lit up. As soon as she was done taking the picture her demeanor went right back to normal. Shoulders dropped, face went back to a frown. She would look at the pic, and not like something about it, and try again. I noticed about 4 times. Each time with the same actions until she saw me looking over at her. Then she tried to continue this process more discreetly with out me seeing. This really made me think. If we are posting all these pictures of us out living our life on social media i.e. FB, IG, snapchat, twitter. What are we really trying to portray, ourselves? Or a self that we wish others to see in us. It just seemed so fake to believe this girl was trying to make people think she was having the time of her life. And in reality it was a very average day for this local girl. I think its strange that people are led to create an idea, or paint a picture of someone, when we are only seeing a shiny, exaggerated, perfect, always happy, side of a person. Your not seeing anything of their true personality, emotions, thoughts. Only the image they choose to portray or try to convince others of. Its a very different time in this world for self love.
