Here in Uppsala University whoever is awarded PH.D Degree, she or he is given a golden ring, a hat to wear and a sword to carry all the time...in practice people only carry the first two elements and its in Finland that they still carry the sword as well as a symbol of their higher education.....also here the University unlike India is not a geographical space which caters to all sections of society to study and get benefits as well but it s a concept here only to nourish the intellectual minds...therefore, university does not provide any accommodation, any scholarships or any other assistance to anybody...and everyone is ok with it as they think it ensures independence and liberty for them...this university administration was also beyond the jurisdiction of legal authorities before and there used to a prison within university itself to punish the students and faculties who were found guilty and thus made things self regulated..... many more things to know about this peculiar society....
