Here is a description of the Jazz Unlimited show hosted by Dennis Owsely to air this Sunday March 23rd at 9pm on KWMU 90.7 on the FM dial. I am so honored to be a part of it! “A Tribute to Trebor Tichenor + New Music.” Trebor Tichenor, St. Louis’s own ragtime music scholar and teacher, lived, as he said, a ragtime life until his recent death. We will celebrate his life with music and interviews on the quieter side of jazz. We will hear music from piano rolls by Scott Joplin, Joseph Lamb and James Scott. Other recording artists on the show are ragtime pianists Milton Kaye, Charlie Thompson, and Trebor Tichenor along with the St. Louis Ragtimers. New music will feature three new CD’s from St. Louis’s own Autumn Hill Records: Kenny Rice’s “Kenny Rice Quartet with Special Guest Nat Adderley,” Joe Mancuso’s “Cut to the Chase”, and Christopher Braig’s “Caribbean Blue.” Other new recordings to be heard include new music from the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Edward Simon and Ensemble Venezuela, the Lena Bloch Quartet, the Frank Wess Quintet, the Nelda Swiggett Stringtet, the Emanuele Cisi Trio, the Tord Gustavsen group, the Bill Goodwin Quartet, the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble and Marty Ehrlich’s Dark Woods Ensemble. Jazz Unlimited is heard every Sunday from 9:00 pm to midnight on St. Louis Public Radio, 90.7 KWMU. You can also listen online at news.stlpublicradio.org./ You can also find the archive of last week’s show, the playlist and photos of the artists on the St. Louis Public Radio web site at: news.stlpublicradio.org/programs/jazz-unlimited. We have added a new feature to the web site with a dynamic playlist so that each song is added as it is played, and you can find out instantly what the tune is if you missed the title. I am so pleased to be a part of this special show.... I have performed with some of the other featured artists.... Christopher Braig, not only is his record Caribbean Blue featured on this show, but he is also playing Tenor Sax on my record Cut To The Chase and I had the pleasure of performing with Emanuele Cisi in 2012 at the Max Jazz Studio/Office in Webster Groves.... also I would like to mention that Andy Tichenor, the great Trumpeter and son of Trebor Tichenor was my classmate at Webster University back in the late 80s, and I recently got to perform with him at Dave Dickeys Christmas show at the Kirkwood Station Brewing Company last December..... again it is such a thrill to be a part of this historic and very special broadcast! I hope you can tune in this Sunday evening starting at 9pm on KWMU 90.7 on the FM dial! Thank you Dennis Owsley for all that you do for this great American art form that we call JAZZ! Also, I would like to thank Michael Silverman and Rob Robert Silverman for welcoming me to the Autumn Hill Records family!
