Here is a great example of the genius of Howard Pyles compositional teaching. His students include: N.C.Wyeth (shown here), Maxfield Parrish, Harvey Dunn (my teachers teacher) and many others. Dunn taught Dean Cornwell, Harold Von Schmidt and many famous illustrators. This influenced Norman Rockwell, the Wyeth family/ Brandywine Artists and countless others. His concept was to make pictures communicating one great message. His use of thematic custom symbols, advanced graphical silhouette construction, usage and manipulation combined with superb heartfelt depiction, usage and projection of mood and brilliantly authentic craftsmanship are quite remarkable. I teach this at The John Kilroy Fine Art Academy- the same curriculum I taught at The Scottsdale Artists School ( expanded beyond the limits of the workshop format). I will be starting to teach this online and anyone interested may contact us for details.
