Here is a sad truth. I am legally blind in my left eye and require glasses all the time. Today I go to the eye doc and get my exam - a full one. Thankfully my insurance covered that. However, my frames are only $89, but because I have high index bi focal lenses that are only made in polycarbonate the total for my glass is $292. The GREAT news is that with these lenses I will be able to read large print books with my LEFT (the blind one) eye for the first time EVER! Now where are all these friends and family I have to HELP me? And before the topic comes up - no I do not get welfare or any government aid beyond the health care. YES I work as a writer and I teach parenting class on Mondays. But, this expense is much more than was quoted to me because at the time we did not know that I NEEDED these specific lenses.
