Here is a video of the E-ranger test ride!! ADRA Zimbabwe presented the long awaited E-rangers to the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare at an auspicious event at Simuchembu Clinic. In attendance were the Member of Parliament of Gokwe North, Honourable Chikomba, the chairperson of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Zimbabwe who is also ADRA Zimbabwe board chair Pastor Choga, Assistant for Midlands Province, District Administrator for Gokwe North, Provincial Medical Officer for Midlands, Traditional Leaders, Personnel from 4 Clinics, ADRA Staff and the community at large. The guest of honour at the event to present the E-rangers was ADRA UK Chief Executive Officer Bert Smit. In his speech Bert, thanked all stakeholders for their support and hard work in implementing the Maternal Health Project that is funded by DFID and ADRA UK. The E-rangers will benefit Simchembu, Vhumba, Nenyunga and Zvomba clinics. E-ranger Motorbike Ambulances, manufactured in East London, South Africa are a health solution for rough terrains such as Gokwe North. It is a versatile bike that will allow a pregnant mother to be transported to a nearby clinic in order to get help in an emergency. There are 3 types of factors associated with maternal morbidity and mortality; delays in decision to seek care, delays in reaching care and delays in receiving effective care. It is envisage that the E-rangers will assist in addressing the second delay. E- rangers are relatively new to Zimbabwe and the project aims to conduct a study to see how effective they will fare in the Gokwe North context. Medical personnel from the target clinics are being trained on riding and maintenance of the bikes.
