Here is an alumni of our department looking for people to work for Travelers Insurance: This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a great career within a specialty that is going to see a lot of folks retire in the next few years. Obviously that spells job security and advancement to motivated people coming in new over the next couple of years. I am beginning the process of recruiting for my newly created position in Seattle Washington. Optimally I am seeking an individual with about a year of real world work experience but will also consider applicants with work experience while attending college. We insure all types of businesses, including manufacturers, wholesalers, retail stores, hotels, technology companies as well as med tech companies. As a multi-line carrier we provide workers compensation, product liability, property, transportation, employers liability coverage’s to name a few. To do this well, we have the best risk control organization in the industry. Our role is to meet with and conduct risk assessments on the businesses we write or propose to write coverage for. Then if we write the account we can work with them to reduce all types of exposures/losses. (employee injuries, fleet accidents, fires, product liability claims etc.) In my career I have been lucky to have worked with companies like Yahoo, Farmer John Meats, Harris Ranch, Eagle Claw, Nugget Supermarkets just to name a few. I point that out just to stress the variety I have been exposed to and as result I have learned a lot about how different industries are run. Now about the position; This position will require temporary location and assignment in Sacramento, California where the individual will train for 6 to 9 months before moving to the Seattle area. Travelers will of course cover the cost of the relocation. My start date is mid December by the way, so I am not looking for someone graduating in May. Delivers risk control services to clients in assigned territory. Provides technical advice and account information to underwriting business partners for risk assessment and analysis. Works on lower complexity assignments, focus mostly on involuntary and small select business. Many assignments are peer reviewed and co-surveyed. Typically has 0-3 years of experience. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct loss control surveys at client locations to determine potential hazards and risk factors to be considered in underwriting/risk selection. Complete survey pre-work gather all information needed to complete the survey. Write technically detailed reports that provide a clear assessment of risk and clearly articulate recommendations. Serve as resource to Account Executive in development of the deal. Consult with clients on ways to control hazards in order to reduce or prevent losses. Starting to influence clients to implement recommendations. Begin to build relationships with underwriting and service teams assigned to CL business, with the broker/agent community, with Claim, with other Risk Control staff, and with clients. Conduct research for underwriters or clients on class of business, operations, NFPA, OSHA issues, or any other technical subject requiring similar analysis. Review loss trends, recognize opportunities to provide risk control products and/or services which can help reduce losses. Apply analytical and ergonomic skills to complete Claims Engineering Review. Maintain timely, relevant communications with the Regional Manager. OTHER: Communication Skills: Becoming more effective with making complex technical information and recommendations understandable and clear to audiences with varied levels of technical knowledge Starting to influence clients to take action on recommendations Listens effectively Clearly expresses ideas, recommendations, etc. in writing Tends to ask more close ended questions in Risk Assessments, starting to understand the use of open-ended questions and behavioral interviewing techniques Business Knowledge: Possesses a low understanding of both Property & Casualty lines of coverage Developing an understanding of Commercial Lines insurance products Fully understands Risk Control performance standards Knows and understands the business plans for each marketing business unit Developing knowledge of regulatory environment and emerging safety issues Technical Expertise: Developing an understanding of Risk Control computer systems applications relevant for their area Handles assignments of low complexity Reviews loss information to identify basic trends and recommendations Customer Service: Builds credibility with internal and external customers Creates customer satisfaction by demonstrating the value of risk control services Familiar with the risk control service tools available to clients, capable of helping client navigate through the risk control website Resource Management: Receives direction and prioritization of workload from management in light of business priorities Identifies methods for improving personal productivity Developing an understanding when it is appropriate to bring in the service or technical expertise of our specialist including specialty groups such as construction, technology and public sector Physical Capabilities: Must be able to climb ladders and stairs and transition to and from ladders or stairs in order to access building roof areas and upper or lower floors within a customer site during risk control surveys. Have the ability to navigate through customer sites in a safe manner, which may include manufacturing areas, warehouses, storage yards, construction sites, etc. which may present surfaces that are uneven, wet, icy, and somewhat unstable or covered with debris. Have the ability to navigate within a customer facility in low light or relatively dark conditions. Be capable of making regular and prompt travel over extended distances by air or vehicle while demonstrating effective planning, expense and cost control skills. Must have the ability to work under exposure to extreme outdoor/indoor conditions (heat, snow, cold, rain etc.)
