Here is an email from Rev. Allison from Choctaw: The Choctaw Mission is located in Choctaw, Mississippi, on seven acres of land 5 miles west of Philadelphia, Mississippi on Highway 16. You will see the green Pushmataha Family Life Center from Hwy 16. Green Hill UMC is located inside it & the Mission house & dorms are behind it. The Choctaw Mission is surrounded by the Pearl River Community of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, descendents of Native Americans who refused the Trail of Tears. Please see choctaw.org for more important historical information. Pastor Daniel & Sybil Tubby live in the parsonage next to the Mission House. They will be there along with Allene who runs the Clothes Closet will be there to greet you & get you settled. There are two dorms & the Mission House to stay in. Each place has a coffee pot, microwave & fridge. There is a large kitchen & dining rooms at the Pushmataha for your main meals. There is a Piggly Wiggly on hwy 16, along with a Wal Mart in Philadelphia. The Closing Ceremonies of the Choctaw Indian Fair & Stickball Championship will be going on as you arrive. You may want to experience these beautiful & exciting cultural events. You should see all the signs pointing you there before you get to the CIM. On Sunday morning, your team can eat breakfast around 830 with the Green Hill congregation. Susie Alex is your contact/lay leader at Green Hill UMC. Worship there is around 930 so 1 preacher can stay there for worship. The other preacher will go to John Memorial UMC in Carthage, MS for worship at 1130. This will be where you will be hosting vbs. Chief Phyliss Anderson worships there. Her sister Sharon will be your contact person there. Your team is welcome to offer a song or two in worship, too! Please prepare lunch for your team plus about 5-10 more people on Sunday. Doc, a Choctaw storyteller & police chief, & his wife will be there to eat with you. He will offer a historical & cultural presentation followed by Q&A. When this is over, it will be time to get vbs set up & go get the kids! Typically, vans go out with a JMUMC church member to get the kids around 5pm. You will need to provide snacks & drinks for the kids. Vans will return kids at the end of vbs. I am still trying to get a updated project list from Tribal Maintenance. Monday morning, I hope to have Bill Gordon from Tribal Maintenance there to take your team to the site & get you started. They know a sheetrocker is coming! You can count on some painting, yardwork & light carpentry, too. There is a tool shed at the Mission that you are welcome to, along with a Lowes there on 16 towards Philadelphia for supplies. Please keep emailing or texting me with questions. Your team has been in our prayers & we look forward to welcoming you soon! Thank you, in advance, for all the ways you will share Gods love! Much peace, Allison 662.694.1619
