She had almost forgotten Jared was with her when he leaned over, stretching his arm across the back of her chair, and whispered, You have three choices. One, you can sit here and look like the woman scorned, just as youre doing now. Two, I can go over there and beat him up for you. Or three.... He paused until she looked at him expectantly, their faces so close their lips were almost touching. Whats my third choice? Was that thin voice really hers? She hated sounding weak.
