Here is an quick update on the U.S. West Coast port conditions. You can read more on our website: PMA has begun to call out fewer night workers at Long Beach and Los Angeles ports, limiting the number of skilled workers to one gang instead of the usual three gangs. In response to the PMA limiting labor on the West Coast, BNSF has announced that they have placed an embargo on CSX and Norfolk Southern interchange containers moving westbound to West Coast ports. The Port of Long Beach opened a new off-dock depot for empty containers aimed at easing congestion - truckers can now drop off an empty container at the storage depot but retain the bare chassis for another drayage move. Chassis maintenance and repair is likely a primary reason for stalled talks between the PMA and ILWU. West Coast ports continue to face congestion with long wait times for container pickups, and turn times remain limited to one container per driver per day.
