Here is chronic laminitis with 2yr history of off and lameness - TopicsExpress

Here is chronic laminitis with 2yr history of off and lameness with moderate worsening over the last few months. This is an overweight arab cross that is insulin resistant. That just means that dietary management is as important and mechanical management. Dropped soles and 6 and 8mm of sole depth with greatly divergent horn lamellar zones. I like to build up the toe pillars with superfast after I drill two holes to anchor the superfast to the foot. I then trim my rocker toe and rocker heel. Nailed, clipped and casted as this horse will spend some time in a large turnout and I dont want to risk a lost shoe. His sole depth immediately post shoeing increased by 2mm. How do you think that happens? This occurs from unloading of the tendon that relieves solar vascular compression and is shown as a greater distance from coffin bone to ground side of sole. The same reason if you put your finger in a vise and smash ot down it will be thinner but take the compression off and it fills with blood it will be thicker. I expect the sole depth, at minimum, to double in 6 weeks and the hoof growth to be even or very close to even from toe to heel. You can see the venogram by looking at the growth pattern of this foot. Where is it compressed?
