Here is my Nomination Speech I did today at the NCN 2014 Nomination Meeting: Tansi. Good Morning NCN! My name is Darcy Linklater Jr, I am here to accept my nomination for Concillor for NCN where I grew up. I am familiar with the Progress and Issues that affect our Nation. I am one of NCN’S next generation offering a new perspective. I am currently employed as the Financial Administrator for the Wuskwatim Implementation Office, where I am a hard working employee who believes in professionalism, productivity, honesty, accountability and transparency. I am not running to disrespect current leadership in any way, I respect you’s and would like to thank you for all your sacrifice, dedication and hard work. I am just pursuing one of my goals I had set when I was younger. I see this as a big job interview and it will be up to you the People to determine if I can perform the Job. So with that I am pleased to provide some of my major accomplishments and achievements: • Business Administration Diploma –Management Major. • Certificate in Financial Management. – U of M. • Candidate in the Provincial Elections in 2011. • Currently on School Board which is a 4 year term. • Currently a Trustee with Taskingahp Trust on my 8th year • Currently a Board Member for Parks & Recreation on my 6th year • Home Ownership Program – Own my own Home, Show the People especially the next generation that we don’t have to depend on Government housing, we don’t have to depend on the Government. (Independence) If elected in I am not sure what portfolios I would be given, I see our Nation as going in the right direction, and this is due to “YOU “ from Leadership to Employees to the People. However my areas of focus would be: • Ensuring Accountability: With input from Managers, Finance and Administrators, NCN policies would need to be looked at and updated and revised to stop procedural misuse of our organizations and to help ensure our employees, related or not, maintain professionalism at all times. Our Chief & Council and Managers also have to respect these policies especially in the area of travel when attending meetings ( for example, meeting minutes need to coincide with travel expenses). • Budgeting and funding fro programs such as recreation should be considered for members living in the urban areas like Winnipeg and Thompson. These members demonstrate self-reliance by providing their families better living conditions, better access to educational opportunities. We should always remember they are NCN Members and should be entitled to equal opportunities. • Strengthening Economic Development Opportunities: Future Generations will be financially secure for years to come through revenues our business ventures generate. However, we must think of today’s generation by creating more jobs through our existing business ventures like Wuskwatim and it’s sub-contracts, Mystery Lake Hotel and Family Foods in Thompson. Promoting Tourism to our Nation will benefit our local businesses and entrepreneurs by bringing revenue into our local economy. We can work with Thompson organizations like tourism north and Discover Manitoba to promote our seasonal events, activities, culture, sacred sites and more. I respectfully ask for your support on election time and humbly ask that you Vote for me on August 12 or 21, 2014. Thank you and have a great day. I will have Posters and Pamphlets Available soon with more of my platform.
