1) The prevalence of autism is now 1 in 68 children, up 30% from the CDC’s last report of 1 in 88 children only 2 years ago. The prevalence of autism in Arizona, 1 in 64 children, remains the same. 2) The data continue to show that ASD is almost 5 times more common among boys than girls: 1 in 41 boys and 1 in 189 girls were identified with autism. 3) White children are more likely to be identified with ASD than black and Hispanic children. 4) Less than half (44%) of children identified were evaluated for developmental concerns by the time they were 3 years old. 5) Most children identified were diagnosed after the age of 4, even though children can be reliably diagnosed as early as 18 months-2 years old.
