Here is my recipe for the Bread And Butter Pickles 2 large onions 1/2 to 1/3 cup salt Cucumbers, (I have a big Tupperware bowl and I fill it up with cucumbers) Put the above ingredients in a large bowl, add water and ice, refrigerate over night. In a large pot put: 3-4 cups vinegar 3-4 cups sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons yellow mustard seeds 3/4 teaspoon celery seed 1 1/2 teaspoons tumeric Bring these ingredients to a boil. In the meantime. Drain and rinse cucumbers and onions off. Let boil a few minutes, add cucumbers and onions to mixture, bring to a boil let vegetables cook down til wilted. (You can cook it to your liking). Put in hot jars ( I wash and put mine on a cookie sheet, and put in oven at 325 degrees, ladel in leaving 1/2 inch from top, place seal that is boiling in hot water. Put ring on tighten and flip upside down with seal facing downward, this will make it seal. Let it cool down, before fliping right side up. Should wait four to six weeks before eating. If you can stand waiting.
