Here is my speech from the Board Meeting tonight. Board Notes 09-04-2013 Good evening, my name is Albert Trudel, I am the President of VVTA. President Vargas, School board members, Superintendent Lopez, colleagues, and community members, I am honored to be speaking with you tonight on behalf of Val Verde Teachers Association. We are working hard to create positive relationships with our members, the district and our community. I am here to advocate for our teachers. I have heard rumors that half of our LCFF money has been put aside before it has reached the negotiations table. This worries me. In the last 5 years our cost of living has increased by 14%. At the same time our teachers have lost thousands of dollars a year due to cuts in salary because of mismanagement and overwhelmed with increased benefit costs. We have just reached the 2007 salary levels at the end of the last school year. Please help make us competitive in salary and benefits. I commend you for hiring a cabinet that is open and honest and willing to work with the unions to create a better a working environment for our students and teachers. We have worked and collaborated with administration to improve the working conditions. Our teachers are wondering what is happening with Measure L money. I know that you have said that we are not going to use any of it until the shovel hits the dirt for the High School. The money is already set aside for the High School, but as we wait VVES floods every year when it rains, we have leaky roofs at RRES and the fencing behind RVHS is insufficient to stop anyone entering the campus, our computers are breaking down district wide, these are just a few of the concerns we have district wide. Members of our exec board will be contacting you shortly to set up individual meetings to continue to build positive relationships with our union. We want to continue to work with the board and our administration to create positive relationships. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to speak.
