Here is the English Translation of a report in Malayalam presented for non-Malayalam speaking friends. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BAN ON SINGING OF “VANDE MATARAM” ON INDEPENDENCE DAY. Kollam, Kerala: Singing of the national song,”VANDE MATARAM” ON THIS Independence Day has been banned. This ban has been imposed on singing Vande Mataram during the Independence Day celebrations tomorrow at the TKM Public School at Karikoode, Kollam in Kerala. The school authorities reportedly succumbed to pressure from an Islamic group of Kerala, SDPI who claimed that signaling “namasthe” by the performers with their hands in a dance performance of Vande Mataram is Unislamic. Under pressure from this group, dance steps to drum beats has been introduced in the independence day celebrations. The rehearsal for performing the Vande Mataram dance was already completed; but yesterday the alternate, drum beat dance practice has begun yesterday. Teachers and students of the school came to know about this change of programme only when then. The teachers and students said that the school authorities changed the programme on instructions from the SDPI after holding an urgent meeting. The T.K.M. school is proposing to conduct Independence Day programmes with 6000 participants in order to claim a place in the Limka Book of Records. Students from the LKG classes to the 12th standard are participating in the programmes. Teachers and students are apprehensive of success of the programme due to shortage of time to practice the “Drum Beat Dance”. It was a group of some parents who accompanied their children who asked the school management to cancel the Vande Mataram programme. Other students and teachers of the School and the TKM College have planned a protest today in Kollam. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (My request to all patriotic Indians) When “Vande Mataram” was sidelined alleging Hindu communalism for invoking Bharat Maata in the form of Lakshmi(wealth) and Durga(strength) in order to promote “Jana Gana Mana”, which was written and first sung in praise of the visiting British Royals in 1911 or alleged so as the national Anthem of India, the Constitution has ensured that Vande mataram will be the National song and would enjoy equal status as the National Anthem. Therefore, insulting the National Song while it is being sung or trying to prevent others from singing or performing it also becomes punishable for treason. I would request all patriotic Indians to take up this issue with the government and ensure that those who insult the National Song or try to prevent others singing the same be awarded the strongest punishment for sedition. https://facebook/welovesasikalateacher/photos/a.651972024835463.1073742337.377848558914479/817507484948582/?type=1
