Here is the HAM FISHER specialty piece drawn for the sick daughter - TopicsExpress

Here is the HAM FISHER specialty piece drawn for the sick daughter of fellow artist, Rex Maxon. It is great to see a comic strip character rendered differently, the pencil and watercolor gives this PALOOKA a whole different feel. This is just one of 21 color/black and white 6 x 9 drawings that were gathered from various syndicate artists and presented to the ill child in a three ring leather binder. The art is dated 1943 and 1944, so I assume they started gathering the material late in 1943 and presented it to her in 1944. Other artists that contributed full color pages of their characters were: R.M. Brinkerhoff (Mary Mix-up), Sparling (Claire Voyant), Gus Judd (Jigger and friend), Al Posen (Sweeney and sons), Moe Leff (pajama kid), Sam Leff (funny face), George Clark (Kitch and friend), Harry ONeill (Broncho Bill), Ernie Bushmiller (Nancy and Sluggo dancing IN COLOR!!!), R. Van Buren (Bathless Groggins), Al Capp (Lil Abner, not a ghost artist), Berndt (Smitty and dog), Bill Holman (Smokey and the Capt.), Ham Fisher (Joe Palooka in an army outfit), Gus Edson (Gump), Berdanier (Hiltler...kinda weird?), Ed Reed (3 babies), John Pierotti (self portrait), Frank Owen (Navy gag), and finally her Dad, Rex Maxon drew a picture of the family dog.
