Here is the answer to yesterdays question. I am pleased to say, many people were correct. The problem with this exercise is that the force acting on the dumbbell is gravity. This lends itself to lifting the weight up (like a bicep curl) but not usually for exercises where the movement is side to side. Think of it like chest flyes, if you are lying on your back you can use dumbbells but you wouldnt use dumbbells if you were standing, you would use cables. If you are doing a sideways movement where the dumbbell doesnt change height, you would use a resistance band or cable so you have some lateral (sideways) resistance. Here are five reps of three similar exercises all performed with free weights. You will notice that in all of them the weight is going from low to high.
