Here is the deal: my kids are 8 and 11. If one has a friend - TopicsExpress

Here is the deal: my kids are 8 and 11. If one has a friend over, they can play by themselves without the sibling. If they are mean to the other sibling, I separate them and come down like a plague of locusts, unless the sibling was instigating. If there are a group of neighborhood children in my house, no one gets excluded or made the butt of mean jokes. Not on my watch, not in my house. Plague of locusts. I have heard from those who think I should let it sort itself out, because how else will they learn to handle bullies and exclusion? My response is that hearing that the behavior is unacceptable is part of learning. Am I the only parent who feels this strongly about this?
