Here is the latest update from the Metservice {SWW Event 2014/31.2} NOT TO BE BROADCAST AFTER 09:00am Sunday 20-Jul-2014 SEVERE WEATHER WARNING. ISSUED BY MetService AT 7:55pm 19-Jul-2014 URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Northland RAIN OVER NORTHLAND EASING EARLY SUNDAY MORNING A low and associated fronts over Northland should move away to the east early Sunday morning with the rain in the region gradually easing. Another 30 to 50mm of rain is possible in eastern parts of Northland south of the Bay of Islands through to 6am Sunday, on top of similar amounts that have already fallen in this area. Given the already sodden conditions, rivers and streams will rise rapidly, and further surface flooding and slips are possible. Note, the winds have eased over much of Northland except the far south. However, southerly gales with gusts of 90 km/h are expected to develop in exposed places during Sunday morning as the low moves away to the east. In the 10 hours from 8pm Saturday to 6am Sunday, expect another 30 to 50mm of rain about eastern areas south of the Bay of Islands, on top of similar amounts that have already fallen here. Peak rates of 10 to 20mm per hour are possible until the early hours of Sunday morning.
