Here is the latest update regarding a potential couple of rounds of severe storms and heavy rainfall that are expected to impact our area Monday night, and again Tuesday into Tuesday night. - The most favored area for severe weather Monday night will be north and west of the I-65 corridor. All modes of severe weather are possible (tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail). There is still some uncertainty as to how the storms evolve early Tuesday morning. There is the potential for these storms to organize into a complex and push east of I-65. Therefore, there will be an elevated risk of severe weather east of I-65 early Tuesday morning. - Another round of severe weather may affect the area Tuesday afternoon, with the severe storms shifting east of I-65 Tuesday evening. This is an elevated risk of severe weather, meaning that many of the ingredients needed to produce a significant round of severe weather are in place. Tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail will be possible. The only potential limiting factor for severe weather on Tuesday would be if the first storm complex stabilizes the region to the point the atmosphere cannot recover. - Heavy rain and flooding will also be possible. Storm totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected west of I-65, with 1 to 3 inches further east. Locally higher totals are certainly possible. A flash flood watch may become necessary. - Additional updates will be provided as more data and details become available. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts and have a plan of action to take in the event severe weather threatens your area early next week.
