Here is the story that will probably run in tomorrows Daily Press newspaper regarding my fathers resolution honoring his life by the Virginia General Assembly. Lastnight, I read this resolution to the Hampton City Council, and once again formally requested that Pine Chapel Road be renamed to honor my father, based on what he did not only for all Hampton citizens, but everyone across the Commonwealth of Virginia when his case was one used to rewrite Virginias Eminent Domain laws in November 2012. An overwhelming 73 percent of all Virginians voted for more protection within the Virginia Constitution regarding property rights. Mayor George Wallace and I had a few words there towards the end of my speaking time, and he directed my microphone to be cut off. What I told him was that he needs to recognize this historical event not only for Hampton, but across the Commonwealth of Virginia as well now, and that it warrants my road renaming request. As his usual childish self, he cannot set aside his personal behavior to do the right thing for a Hampton man who has now been memorialized by this state via HJR-278, making it a permanent part of Virginias history. We will keep pressing for this due recognition, and respect of one of Hamptons own citizens who only did the right things by fighting for his rights to own property. The merit of this case can no longer be ignored by these people who call themselves leaders.
