Here is your daily dose bafethu, but you can also read it from dsiders.every1mobile.net/ Previously... Shreya asked Takunda if he thought they should have a break. As soon as she had asked the question, Shreya regretted it. Takunda gave her a questioning, slightly hurt look. “Is that what you want?” he queried, his pride dashed. Shreya backpedalled, tried to make up for it. “No! I mean, it was just a suggestion, I didn’t know what –“ “Why would you suggest it then?” Well, isn’t it obvious to you that something is up with us? We both know that things are far from perfect between us at the moment, T.” Takunda pondered this. He didn’t want to bring it up again, but he thought the fault lay mainly with Shreya. New York distracted her. It was HER course taking up all her time, HER social life that was so busy. His life was not busy, and his studies were his studies. He left them at the college. Shreya brought her work back home with her. He felt second best. “I can see there is something you want to say,” Shreya noted. “I just feel…” said Takunda, then stalled. How did he put it without insulting her? “I just feel that I am not your top priority.” There. He’d said it. Shreya listened. Seeing that she wasn’t freaking out, Takunda ventured further. “I know that your studies are important to you, Shrey. You’re a brilliant designer, and I just know you’re going to go far. I think you know it too.” “Well,” said Shreya, her modesty kicking in. “I’m not that good, I’m –“ “Don’t be modest. You won every prize at tech back home. You have real, God-given talent. Let’s just accept that as a given.” Shreya smiled. “Thank you, Takunda.” “Don’t thank me yet,” said Takunda, knowing he still had to get to the hard part. He shifted in his seat, awkwardly. “I just feel...neglected.” Shreya looked back at him awkwardly. She bit her lip. Takunda continued. “I just feel I don’t see enough of you. I know you’re busy, but I’m important too. I don’t think it’s fair how I come all this way, and you sort of set me aside as like your three-o-clock appointment. I shouldn’t have to queue in line to get face-time with you. I’m your boyfriend, right?” Shreya was just staring at him. “Right?” he asked again, getting insecure now. Shreya sighed. “You’re right.” There didn’t seem anything more to say. Takunda was brave. “So, can you schedule me in some time? I know that you’re gorgeous, and everyone wants a piece of you, but can we agree that I at least get the biggest piece?” Shreya laughed. She felt terrible about what Takunda was accusing her of, because she knew it was true. Getting to New York had been like a dream. Winning the first year Design Challenge had been a dream. But it had all been her dream. She was the central character. Prizes, admiration, getting what you want – that was all great, but it could only take you so far. She’d forgotten that the love and trust of someone special was the greatest prize of all. She sighed once more. “I’ve been such a cow,” she admitted. She almost felt slightly tearful. “No, you haven’t been so bad, it’s just-” “I have. It was hard for me to accept what you said just now, because it was true. Know what I mean? It would have been easier if you accused me of drinking too much, or something, ‘cos that would obviously be untrue. I’ve been wrapped up in my own stuff, at the expense of our relationship. You’ve brought it up once, and I said I’d try harder, and then I just slipped back into it. I’m…ashamed.” “Don’t be, Shrey. Please don’t be. I love you, and I want you to succeed, and be yourself, and have total freedom. I just wanna be around to see you enjoy all that stuff. Ok?” Shreya stood up. She felt so guilty. Takunda stood too. “Don’t feel bad,” he soothed, coming in to hug her. “I’m sorry,” she whispered into his ear, and hugged him, hugged him as if he were the most precious thing in the world. Meanwhile... Spox was in the toilet at Jikaville Clinic that afternoon. She hadnt been feeling well the whole week. Her body temperature fluctuated randomly, her breasts hurt and she felt exhausted. The nurse had given her a container to pee on - so that a pregnancy test can be perfomed. Spox felt the exercise was useless. She and Thabo had only slept together without a condom two or three times, she recalled. She peed in the container reluctantly. Everything about it was gross. The clinic was packed, it was dirty, it smelled funny and shed had to wait nearly two hours before she could see a nurse. Now the nurse was insinuating that she could be pregnant. She did the deed, pulled her jeans up, zipped up and walked back to the nurse’s office. The nurse was helping another patient now; a desperately sick woman with blotchy, unhealthy looking skin. This woman has AIDS, surely, Spox thought, waiting for them to finish up before she walked in. The sickly lady took her medication and walked out. Spox looked away, trying to avoid seeing the bad acne again. Sorry about that, Siphokazi. Im the only one on duty today. You know how Mondays are - everyone has an excuse for not being able to come in. I wished they’d just quit boozing. They’re nurses for crying out loud. Spox forced a smile through the side of her mouth. She couldnt be bothered by their silly office politics. Sit down my dear, the nurse said, pointing at the chair on the other side of her desk. So what’s the result, asked the nurse showing her the pregnancy tester? Its got two stripes, Spox answered. What does that mean? The nurse made a closer observation of the stick. Well, congratulations Siphokazi. It looks like youre gonna be a mommy. Spox jumped up out of her chair, pushing the stool back. It was an immediate, instinctual reaction she herself couldnt understand. No! Spox shouted, staring at the nurse. Sit down and keep it down ... what? Whats the matter? the nurse asked Spox, sensing trouble. Wheres the father? Spox was still trembling. Her heart raced as she shivered like a junkie yearning for a fix. Whats wrong Siphokazi? the nurse asked, standing up now. Can I get you a glass of water, or something? No you cannot. Are you sure, nurse? Maybe I must do another test … give me another stick to pee on.” “These tests are 98% accurate, my dear. You say you’ve been nauseous, your breasts are sore and you’re tired all the time, right?” “Give me another stick NOW. This must be some mistake,” Spox said, sounding threatening. “You girls don’t want to use condoms,” the nurse replied, digging in a drawer behind her and pulling out another pregnancy tester. She turned back to Spox, “And then you act all shocked when …” Spox snatched it out of her hand and dashed off to the toilet again. “RUDE!” the nurse yelled down the corridor after her. She couldn’t believe the manners of young people nowadays. Spox ran to the bathrooms, chose a cubicle, shut and locked the door behind her. She pulled down her jeans and panties, and repeated the deed. “There better be one line, please. One line, please God,” Spox prayed. She waited for three minutes without taking her eyes off the stick. The toilet suddenly felt cold and gloomy. She felt a bit claustrophobic as she stared at the tester. The second line was blurry at first, but it was getting more and more conspicuous. Spox was panicking badly as she sat there watching the train wreck in her hands. She thought of Thabo and what they’d done in Bonani’s house and her own sister’s house. “Why couldnt we have bought Lovers Plus or something, DAMN IT,” she yelled, with one hand on her head. There were definitely two lines again. There was no denying it - she was pregnant. She breathed in deeply, and then exhaled. The room spun like a hula-hoop. She was in deep trouble now as she breathed in and out again, trying to compose herself. She put the tester in her pocket and opened the door a crack, to see if the nurse was busy with another patient – she was. Spox sprinted out the toilet and out the clinic, without looking back. Coming Soon Is Siphokhazi ready to be a mother?
