Synthetic Unlimited’s Summer Theater Education Program Monday, June 17th- Friday, August 9th, 2013 MONDAYS: 12-2 pm- Acting Shakespeare- Jeffrey Mason Four class series: June 17th & 24th, July 1st & 8th In this short course, actors will bring to life the most exciting material ever written for the stage: the plays of William Shakespeare. Working with monologue or scene selections of their choice, actors will start with verse and language, then move quickly to character, interaction, and daring, bold, creative interpretation. Ages sixteen and up. Actors may wear whatever they like, and each actor will need to bring a copy of the play or selection s/he chooses for a project. Enrollment is $100 for the series. To enroll contact Shawnna Frazer. 3-4 pm- An Actor’s Survival Course- Eric Kenyon Eight class series: June 19th and 26th, July 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th & 31st, August 7th This injury-proofing physical training course will train the actor or dancer to use safer, more adept movement immediately, and will have a progressive and permanent effect over the eight sessions. Students will be tested in fundamental movement to detect motor control dysfunction, and susceptibility to injury. According to the collective needs of the group, we will practice mobility and stability drills, dynamic stretches, movement prep, restorative and corrective exercise. All ages. Students train barefoot or in thin soled shoes, and should wear non-restrictive clothing. Enrollment is $25.00 per class, and $160.00 for the series. THURSDAYS: 11:00 – 1:30 – Theatrical Games Promoting Communication Skills- Shawnna Fraser Five class series: June 20th & 27th, July 11th & 25th, August 1st A valuable workshop geared towards enhancing communication skills and emotional awareness through drama and improvisation. To enroll contact Shawnna Fraser. 2-4 pm - Career Development- Jimmy McCammon Four class series: June 20th & 27th, July 4th & July 11th A peer-to-peer workgroup for performers to explore the tools and techniques of staying busy and making a profit as an independent artist. Peers will assess one another honestly to encourage each other to refine the elements of their skill set which may not be ready for the professional world yet. Guest speakers and working professionals will share their experiences with the group. We will also explore and share trade resources, publications, tips, tricks and techniques to get you hired, cast, produced and published. Ages 16 and up. Entrance by donation. FRIDAYS: 12- 2 pm- Voice Lessons- Grace Fae Eight class series: June 21st & 28th, July 5th, 12th, 19th & 26th, August 2nd & 9th Four half-hour sessions of private voice lessons with Grace. Each session will include basic breathing technique and exercises, stretching, vocal scales, work with vowel tones and diction, and acting in vocal performance. Each students should bring a water bottle, and songs (either sheet music or CD tracks) that they would like to work on. $25/ half hour, or 8/ $175. Ages sixteen and up. Introduction to Acting- Grace Fae First Series: June 21st & 28th, July 5th & 12th Second Series: July 19th & 26th, August 2nd & 9th Each four week series includes yoga, stretching, vocal and acting exercises, and introduction to basic acting technique in terms of tablework, beats, objectives and actions. Students will work on and rehearse several monologues and scenes, and perform a memorized piece at the end of four weeks. Come in comfortable clothes that allow you to move, and feel free to bring a water bottle, and any material you are interested in working on. Enrollment is $25 per class, or $100 for the series. One or Two Day Classes: How to Audition- Susan Mason Two class series: Tuesday, June 25th and Tuesday, July 2nd , from 2-5 pm both days In this two day series, you will learn the tools needed to help you gain confidence for a successful audition. Actors will practice cold readings, preparing and presenting an audition piece, writing a resume and filling out an audition form. Ages sixteen and up. Enrollment is $60 for both dates. Tuesday, July 9th from 2-5 pm Friday, August 16th from 1-4 pm These two separate classes are free, fun introductions to acting for middle and high school students. The class includes yoga, stretching, vocal and acting exercises, and theater games. Students will be cast in small scenes, and will rehearse and perform a short monologue or scene at the end of the three hour session. Come in comfortable clothes that allow you to move, and bring a water bottle, and any material you are interested in working on. Ages 13-18. Free or donation. Making a Scene- Pamela Hodges Two class series: Monday, August 5th, and Tuesday August 6th from 10 am-2 pm both days This two-day hands-on introduction to scenic painting for the theatre demonstrates and allows students practice with tools, techniques and materials, and teaches beginners or experienced painters how to create some theatre magic.
