Here, we are again observing the inexact science of statistics. According to the Census Bureau, about 15% of the US population is below the poverty line. Thats about 1 out of every 6 people. I believe its more like 3 or 4 out of every 6 people, which would make it something like 50-70% - and even that seems quite low. I believe, two things are at fault for skewing the numbers: 1. the poverty line is too low. In other words, it does not reflect correctly the actual difference between living in poverty and middle class. Because, essentially, there is no more middle class - its split into rich and poor. 2. culturally, we are conditioned to say Im okay, and thats what most people will say, even if they are going through severe financial troubles. We are trained to deny being in a tight spot as though its a life and death situation, but that doesnt help anyone - not the person doing it, nor the government Census agency, collecting data, which is supposed to be analyzed by lawmakers, who would - ideally - enact laws to bring much-needed relief to the people... so, let me lead by example: I may have a few nice things, and I may dress okay, but people, I am broke about like 90% of the time, if not more. It is tough to make ends meet most of the time, and Id definitely classify myself as poor. It doesnt mean I am capable of something illegal, or that Im asking anything from anyone - Im simply admitting what is true, to myself and to anyone, who cares to read this stuff. My name is Vlad and I have a problem... if you - like lots of other people - pretend to be well off, while barely making ends meet, join me, and be honest! Well get stronger together, and even if we dont all get rich, lets at least try to have a good time in this beyotch! ;)
