Here we are in Ruidoso, NM, Saturday morning sitting at Sacred Grounds Coffee. Its rainy, so, no patio gig tonight - well be playing inside. Last nights a different story. Last night we got to Farleys at about 5:20, and I backed up to the door to unload and set up for a 6:00 starting time. I went inside first to make sure the band area was clear of tables, and, to my surprise, another band was setting up. Short story: communication mix-up between me and the manager. He offered us Sunday at a time of our choosing so we could still play two days. We dont usually play Sundays so were still deciding about that. OK, no gig Friday night. What to do? When we were here last, on July 18-19, we noticed that Michael Martin Murphy was scheduled at Mountain Annies that very night. We went to the show, which was quite enjoyable. After the show, we talked with Michael and told him that we were friends with his former road manager, Eric Ness. We were saddened when Michael told us that Eric had died about two years ago from pancreatic cancer. Penny told Michael that Eric had been working on having us open for him whenever he was performing in the area. We visited with Michael, lead player Shaun Richardson and bassist Gary Roller for a few minutes, gave them our cards and finally I told Michael, Well, I know youre tired and hungry, so well let you get going. They are all very nice guys. I also got the chance to speak with Blake, the new general manager of Mountain Annies about the possibility of performing there. He seemed very interested and took my card. Theres always an option, and we realized that we took advantage of the option of meeting Michael and finding out about Eric. Were trusting Father in the opening and closing of doors in our lives, so were not worried nor discouraged over the double-booking incident. He knows our path, directs it, prepares a way for us, and leads us in paths of righteousness for His Names sake. We just have to be sensitive and aware enough to follow. Its still raining, so tonight well probably be inside at Farleys. We like the patio better, but are grateful for the gig. All I can say this morning is, Father, Your Kingdom come and will be done in our lives for this day. Amen.
