Here we go! Dear America, I never hide who I am because I dont feel like I have to. If my mother knows who cares who else knows. However it is still this discomfort that every new person I meet, that moment will come. The moment of hows your wife? I heard you were married. You are so handsome I know the girls are all over you! Then I find myself stepping out of that proverbial closet that I thought you left behind years ago. Every non gay person I meet I have to relive this very uncomfortable moment. Not that I care what they think, its the psychology around it. It takes me back to the moment at 21 when I first told my mother who I really was. That sense of unsure outcome, the discomfort to find comfort. As a teacher I get to relive that every school year with parent and student. I will always be me because Im proud of who I am and who Im married to. In my mind I have to expect that forever I will have to keep coming out because I dont fit a stereotype that has been created. No offense to the people that fit the stereotype, but Im tired of coming out of the closet. Signed One Happy Gay Man
