Here we go. God in action. I am not a religious person, but I believe in God, and I believe in the goodness of the truth. This is just too ironic. Today, July 2nd is the day my brother Pete died July 2, 1981 - 33 years ago. Two days ago, I found out that Petes best high school friend, Matt Dennihy, died. I was devastated. Matt was there for me and my family for years after Pete died along with some of Petes other friends- Jim Brown, Lloyd Kent, Julie Bittoni Smith, Michael Salucci, Tony Salucci, Jim Brown, Keith Leedham and so many more. I remembered that Matt had written a beautiful poem that he gave to me the next day- July 3, 1981 that we read at the funeral. I woke up last night at 3:33am and felt compelled to find it. Up in my 110 degree attic, I finally found it. The irony is unimaginable. Tomorrow is Matts wake- July 3- the same day he gave me the poem 33 years ago. So many 3s.... I know that these two friends are together again now. Here is Matts poem- BY THE WAY for Peter Schmidt, by Matt Dennihy July 3, 1981 Sometimes life is just a game, Reality strikes, Its not the same to me. Just when you really start to live, A man called God will take and give some pain. Sitting on the beach drinking beer together Staying out all night-- sometimes those memories last forever. Why does it have to be this way? Why Cant we go back to stay... the same way we were... Its come and gone so fast, OH I want to relive the past. But I know we got to go on and try again. And this MY FRIEND, this is for you. For all those girls and all that brew we done- so fun- to the days of the Jacks, and days of no pride. All those hopes and dreams Inside of you... And this MY FRIEND, This is for you. For all those Days with nothing to do. -- July 3, 1981 Rest in Peace- my beloved brother, Pete Schmidt and Matt Dennihy xoxoxox
