Here you go boys and girls - my anecdote about Dean Harrison…It was on one of my “earlier” tours, I think the Chicago tour in ’66, maybe DC in ’67. At a motel, somewhere on the homeward leg of the tour, I slept with Dean Harrison. There was some sort of snafu with the reservations and I remember we ended up with fewer rooms than we needed. Now if you will remember, Dean always had a private room on tour, at least during my tenure. He was not a chaperone, he was Dean. I suppose because of the predicament of fewer rooms, Dean must have offered to share. Exactly how David Gillespie and I got assigned to his room, who knows? There was also someone else assigned due to the shortage of beds and he (unknown) ended up bunking with David. Not by my choice but I think by Jerry, I was ordered to bunk with Dean, and I remember David getting a huge kick out of it – I was probably the smallest, so it made sense. Keep in mind, these were old-fashioned double beds, not queens. The biggest shock wasn’t being Dean’s bedmate, it was seeing Dean walking around in his boxer shorts – yes, it can now be revealed he was a boxer, not a brief man – and his Robert De Niro undershirt. It was disturbing and very un-Deanlike. Inevitably, zero hour approached and all of my stalling came to an abrupt end when I was told that the lights were being turned off. From that point on, all I really remember is laying on the mattress with my toes, knees, elbows and chin sticking off the edge of the mattress, and consuming as little bed space as humanly possible. Maximum effort was expended so as not to come in contact with Dean in any way. Other than that, I really only remember Dean mumbling in his sleep - Lynn, oh, Lynn - over and over… well, no that didn’t really happen, but I wanted to make this as interesting as possible after Julia and Sarah’s big buildup. So that’s all there was to it. But think about this, how many people besides Lynn and I can say we slept with Dean Harrison?
