Local congregations were being poisoned from within by teachings that were not in line with the truth about Jesus. One of those false teachings was called Do•ce•tism: "An opinion especially associated with the Gnostics that Jesus had no human body and only appeared to have died on the cross." {A.H. Dictionary} Another was known as Cerinthianism: [se RIN the an i zem]. This doctrine taught that Jesus received the Divine Spirit at His baptism, and that it left Him before He died on the cross. [They taught Jesus Himself was not Divine. This of course was a false teaching] [SO WHAT KIND OF SPIRITS ARE WE LISTENING TO, TODAY???] Do they believe... That Jesus died on the cross for our sins - That He arose from the dead the 3rd day - That He is the "Son" of God, seated at the right hand of the Father - That His wonderful gift of salvation is available to all who believe the truth about Jesus, & accept Him into their heart by faith as their Savior & Lord!]
