Heres a court case that might raise some eyebrows! Back in the early 1920s, an elderly white man in Oklahoma and his neighbor, a single black woman, were arrested and convicted for public lewdness. What exactly did they do? They picked blackberries together, rode in a buggy together, and ate together in public. Conviction was overturned, but on a technicality. And remember: the Klan was so active in Oklahoma at the time that marital law had to be declared in the state in 1923.
