Heres a familiar scenario. Two dogs are brought into an animal - TopicsExpress

Heres a familiar scenario. Two dogs are brought into an animal control facility as strays on the same day. One is a small-breed dog. The other is a Pitbull. An AC volunteer takes both dogs photos and writes up brief bios for them after assessing them. Then she shares them both on Facebook. Regardless how sweet-natured, well-balanced, healthy, house-trained, dog-, cat-, and kid-friendly the Pitbull is, the small-breed dog will get ten times more shares from crossposters and ten times more OMG! Dont let this baby die! comments, and will get ten adoption applications and several rescue offers, when the Pittie gets not a single one... even if the small dog is old, hairless or matted, toothless, sick, not housetrained, and doesnt get along with anybody. The small dog gets rescued or adopted within a couple of days of his stray hold ending. The Pitbull sits there in a kennel for weeks, and then is killed for space because no one - not crossposters, rescues, or adopters - will look past her breed. But by golly, if the AC volunteer updates, killed for space, all those crossposters and commentors who ignored the original posting for the Pitbull will come out of the woodwork and start bashing the AC staff as murderers. Look in the mirror before you start assigning blame.
