Heres a little situation that happened and it hasnt been proven - TopicsExpress

Heres a little situation that happened and it hasnt been proven but Id like to know if anyone has thoughts on it or knows of any similar instances, BUT PLEASE NO JOKES, THIS IS TRUE. I dont usually buy meaty bone dog treats but was only thing DG had at the time. I had given our 2 Maltese several over a period of weeks and my big boy the same. Probably more to my big boy. Anyhow no signs of any problems, not even in years past because I had given these to all my pets at some point in time. Well my next door neighbor has a rescue Blue Merle Australian Shepherd who Ive gotten to know well, to the point he acted as good to me as his owner. He has protective nature and it shows. So a few weeks ago standing at the fence with treats in my hand while talking to my neighbor, I gave her dog, her child, her buddy, her protector, (thats all the same dog to emphasize how close they were...youll understand in a minute) a couple of the meaty bone treats and he ran off with his normal excitement like always. The next day my neighbor is walking shadow but something isnt right. Hes a bit lethargic and she had to coax him to come on which isnt normal. She took him back inside so we could head on to work, both of us scratching our heads as to what may be wrong but didnt see any need to panic. I had even mentioned that maybe it was the treats from yesterday and as I expected, her thoughts were, nah I dont think so. I take care of her yard and had sprayed weed killer along fence but we both were confident that wasnt it either so we both headed on to work. That evening shadow was absolutely fine!! Go figure!! Now, 5 days later, same fence situation as before but this time I had 5 bones in my hand to split with my dog and hers. My dog was visiting friends a few houses down where he lives during the day so I ended up giving shadow all 5 treats over 30 minute period. These are for small dogs so thru arent bug at all. Bout the size of a Vienna sausage. Well, the next morning here comes my neighbor walking shadow again and for same reason. She had noticed last time that breathing seemed a bit heavy but we just kinda let it go. All symptoms were same as the previous time so she took him back inside and he layed by back sliding door looking to my yard like always as we left for work. I had come home for lunch,4 hours later, and noticed he was laying back by the door again but what I missed was he was in the identical position as when we left that morning. When she came home, she noticed shadow didnt meet her at the door and she knew something was wrong. Shadow had died after she left that morning laying in the exact same spot as she left him. He had already become slightly stiff. I couldnt have been any further away when I got the panicking phone call that her baby was dead. When I finally got there, several people had come by and her daughter was still there. I listened to all being said but nothing indicating dog treats as the culprit so to relieve the guilt I was feeling I refreshed the last week of events giving him treats but like anyone would, shunned it off as NOT the cause of death. I still think its too coincidental not to be but there just isnt enough data to back it. They are made by del monte with a ton of ingredients, several preservatives that have to be handled with protective clothing. So I ask you, any of you, has this happened to you or anyone you know? Autopsy was out because shadow had been picked up already by local company for cremation. Please let me know if you have any info on this.
