Heres a picture that lives on my bookshelf in a place of honor. I didnt know there was such a thing as a writers conference back then. I only knew that my favorite writer in the whole world was nearby in Middleburg, Virginia with his lovely wife Mary, and I went to meet him at the wonderful store called the Book Chase, which has since closed down. Tonight when I was dusting I found the bookmark tucked inside the book that he signed for me, so I know the exact date was October 9, 1999. Every aspiring writer has authors who influence and inspire him or her. More than any other author, Dick Francis did that for me Im so glad I got a chance to meet him and tell him so. I think he was the best storyteller I have ever read. #throwbackthursday #dickfrancis
