Heres a quick recap for new members... The group has been formed because Coventry Stadiums future - and with it the Bees and Stock Cars - is on the line due to the news that an outline planning application for the building of houses has been made. The plans, drawn up by Framptons property and development specialists, are being exhibited tomorrow morning (10.15 - 1pm) at Binley Woods Village Hall with a view to selling the stadium to developers. The response from Bees fans has been overwhelming in opposition to the planning, with thousands of fans from all eras joining together via this group and the Twitter feed #savecovspeedway as well as signing the e-petition epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/70559. This story was the lead news item on BBC C&W last Friday and Midlands Today are also featuring it. It has had lead stories in the local press and already has the support of the MP and other councillors. The organisers of the campaign are urging Bees fans to show up tomorrow (Saturday 17th) at Binley Woods Village Hall to peacefully make their feelings known, giving priority to local residents, whose lives it will affect on a daily basis. And then to write to Rugby DC if the plans are submitted, to reinforce our case and to let them know how much the stadium and motor sports here are loved by so many. (mail savecoventrystadium@hotmail with your Brandon story) Brandon stadium has a rich tradition. Its an iconic sports venue - the largest and most popular facility in the Rugby District Council area. In view of the lack of news from the owners about any plans for a new stadium, and the announcement that we only have two more seasons left at Brandon (despite confusing recent reports that motor sports were assured until 2023 when the owners were negotiating with Coventry City FC), fans now feel it is time to dig our heels in and make our concerns very public. We have a great facility here and a brilliant team. It would be tragic to lose either!
