Heres a quick update on the potential for thunderstorms across - TopicsExpress

Heres a quick update on the potential for thunderstorms across Victoria this weekend. Isolated thunderstorms will be possible along the northeast ranges during Saturday afternoon thanks to daytime heating and forcing from the hills. A trough is then expected to move into Victoria later Sunday and then cross the state during Monday, resulting in unstable conditions. There will also be quite hot surface temperatures leading to high convective potential, and this coupled with high moisture values means there is the good potential for thunderstorms through most areas on Sunday and Monday. Image 1 shows lifted index values (a measurement of instability) for Sunday, and image 2 shows Monday. Both days have highly unstable conditions which means thunderstorms are at least possible, and coupled with the other factors mentioned above, will be likely in some areas. The more active day is expected to be Monday, when the trough moves across the state, allowing for stronger and deeper convection. Image 3 is for later next week, when a return of unstable weather is likely. Well have more details on these days tomorrow.
