Heres a song I wrote about growing up in Rochester...growing a bit excited that Im visiting this weekend! Check it out! I grew up in the city that wasn’t always pretty Summers were amazing 6 month winters monochrome Where every house was haunted more times than not was wanted Living with love ones that you never knew in flesh I’d seen a million places so ended my hiatus Back to the borough this time I hope for good My Grandma wanted company so we said the rosary And prayed for several hours beneath a wall hung effigy Chorus: Living by the river is sure to make you shiver With the wind off the water And the whispers in the trees To your friends foes and family Be gentle when you can be You never know when life will bring you to your knees I went to Mass on Christmas it was said by Father Dismas He spoke about the charity of good king Wenceslas He went off on a tangent so the kids started the pageant We waited for the ushers so we could go in peace In the basement of the chapel my family lit a candle For the bishop that was resting with his name set in stone I said grandma beg your pardon but I’m headed to the gardens It’s a charming little boozer just across the street I got a double shot of liquor and a pitcher of a pilsner Thinkin bout the commander and the Eucharistic minister And that eyes that my aunt has reminds me of my grandad’s She’s stubborn as he was but her heart was just as warm In the shadow of Cecilia the emptiness will kill ya Thinkin all your tender memories of childhood are gone In the hub of the county with the hills like sentinels around me Is the place that I pray that they will lay me down
