Heres a thought...me and brother Zane Smith had a deep conversation about the loss of young black life as it relates to Crips and Bloods. We pushed the envelope as it relates to possible causes and possible cures. Of course Zane, being very opinionated and intelligent, wanted to take an opportunity to apologize for the curse that was spun by the birth of the Crips and Pirus. I told him that an apology was needed but not curative. In other words, when youve done wrong, and caused pain, it is your responsibility as a man, be you Christian, Muslim or whatever, to go to those you have offended and offer your sincerest regrets. However, the cure to hate will always be love. And love, being both a verb and a noun, must sometimes reveal itself in the form of action. Hence, we decided to begin working towards establishing a loving relationship with the young men in our community by first showing love to those who are among our own generation. This means that those of us who once flew the flag of hate, be it red or blue, must now wave the flag of brotherhood most high! For Zane is right, many of us owe and apology for our acts of youthful ignorance, but words will not be enough. Zane and I both agree that actions speak louder than words and therefore we must begin the peace treaty not just among young black males, but among black people in general. So that there might be a unity among us that exceeds whatever challenges come to divide us. Then, when our young people know that division is a cause of our demise and never a cure, then they will put down their banners of division, that being Crip and Blood, and join our new movement for peace and unity not against anyone, but unity and peace for ourselves. So, if you believe this is true, and are moved by what youve read, today reach out to someone who is your brother or sister in spirit and in flesh, and say to them...I AM YOUR BROTHER AND I LOVE YOU! I AM YOUR SISTER AND I LOVE YOU! And if you can...take a moment out of your day to reach out to your children and say with all the honesty you have within you, that I AM YOUR FATHER AND I LOVE YOU! I AM YOUR MOTHER AND I LOVE YOU! For the greatest threat to hate is love...WE ARE NOT CRIPS, WE ARE NOT PIRUS, WE ARE THE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF QUEENS AND KINGS! In order to gain such respect, we must demand it by our actions and our deeds!
