Heres a video edit that Paul did of out Hawaii trip entitled Rum, Spam and the Lash ... My story of Sirens is centred in the Pacific Ocean. I have spent my life on and around this ocean, putting myself through art school as a fishing guide. But I felt I needed to really immerse myself, so to speak, and gain a closer understanding of the medium that covers nine tenths of our planet. In May of 2014, my boat partner, Paul Roberts and I embarked on a 80 day, return sailing voyage from Victoria to Hawaii. The distance was 6400 miles in total, akin to driving from LA to New York and back, plus another 900 miles. The preparation of our relatively small 32 foot sailboat and the knowledge required to survive the voyage, was a three year endeavour. I spent many long watch hours writing, when conditions would allow. In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, some 1200 miles from shore, I completed the outline for the story.
